How much he loves me!

As I was doing my bible study last night I was reading about the crucifixion of Jesus. We have heard the story so many times that it seems we get numb to it and don't let it touch our hearts as it should. One verse really stuck out to me and I want you to see it:

And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, and saying Though that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. Matthew 27:39 & 40

When I read this verse last night all I could say was thank you Jesus for not coming down from the cross. He could have came down, he could have chosen not to go through any of the pain or the condemnation. He could have not went to Calvary, but he did for me. The one who's sin pushed the thorns on his head, the one who's sin nailed him to the cross. My sin caused him pain. He had to die for my sin so that I could be forgiven. What mercy, what grace! Even though all were mocking him and even God the Father had turned away. We could never know what he went through, but he did it for me. So my thought all day today has been, thank you Jesus for not coming down from the cross. Because he did this I am bound for heaven. Not only that, I have a heavenly father who takes care of me and listens to me and cares for me. How amazing! This is the lyrics to the song, how deep the Fathers love.
We can never grasp how deep his love is for us.

How deep the Father's love for us, How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss,The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One, Bring many sons to glory
Behold the Man upon a cross,My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything. No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ. His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart. His wounds have paid my ransom.
